Types of Practices
Swims
Swims will be held at RecWell in the Natatorium or Cooke 15 once the fall semester starts. Our swim policies are based on the current RecWell Aquatics guidelines. We will have the workouts posted for our members to access. During the summer, swim practices will be held in lakes (open water swimming) once the water temperature is appropriate. Runs
Our runs will be held outdoors throughout the year, typically starting outside the RecWell. |
Bikes
Bikes will be held outdoors when temperatures and road conditions permit. The team has some extra road bikes we can loan out to people who do not have access to a bike. Indoor spins will begin once the weather gets too cold to bike outside in the RecWell. Additionally, the team has a couple extra trainers that can be loaned out for indoor biking during the winter. |

Overall Training Plan
The overall training plan begins in the fall and is designed to prepare athletes to perform their best at nationals. This preparation takes place in three stages: base phase, build phase, and taper. NOTE: Our team welcomes athletes to join at any point during the season! See descriptions below for each phase.
Base Phase
Base training takes place throughout most of our Fall semester and some portion of the Summer. During base phase, techniques of each sport are stressed so that athletes can properly build up intensity in the next phase. Training focuses on aerobic capacity and drills. Athletes will build up a solid base for all three sports, including their weaknesses.
Build Phase
This phase typically starts a few weeks into our Spring semester, and lasts up to a few weeks prior to USAT Collegiate Nationals. The team is also provided a Build plan for Summer training. With the increased volume from the base phase, we now work on heavier intensities. The build phase is intended to challenge athletes and build up strength with more difficult workouts than the base phase.
Taper
The taper phase begins 2 weeks before USAT Collegiate Nationals and continues right up until race day. This phase will start at the same intensity of the build phase and then the volume (not intensity) will diminish to around 50% at Nationals time.
NOTE: There are both beginner and advanced sets for each phase depending on how strong you are in each sport. These can be mixed and matched to complement your own strengths and weaknesses. Check out the sample workouts below to get an idea of how practices work!
